How to Throw a Great Picnic (At Home)!

Spring is finally here, so get outside and enjoy those sunny days! One of the best ways to soak up a day in the outdoors is by throwing a picnic – they don’t have to be complex to be great fun. Here’s how!

Spring has sprung, and that means it’s time to get outside and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine. Having a picnic is a perfect way to soak in the rays, while enjoying a tasty, relaxing meal. The best part? You don’t have to travel far! You can enjoy a picnic anywhere – even in your own backyard (or on your balcony)!

First you’ll want to gather a couple blankets, and any utensils you might need – forks, spoons, spatulas, and dishes. If you want to go for an authentic feel, pack what you need in a basket – otherwise, a reusable grocery bag or a cardboard box will do. Tip – if you bring 2-3 blankets, you can keep the food and drink separate from where you’re sitting and keep things clean and off the ground!

Next, you’ll want to plan out your meal! Cheese and crackers, fresh fruit, and cut up veggies are all great options for picnic munchies. Pack them into separate containers with lids, so they can be easily covered while you’re outdoors. Every meal needs a main course – and if you’re already ordering meat online, you’ll have plenty of options to choose from! Chicken breast can be cut into strips for easy eating on the go, and sausage can be cut, cooked, and added to a toothpick with cheese, olives, or any other toppings you love. A picnic is an unconventional mealtime – so exercise those creative culinary muscles and try something new.

Games are a great way to pass the time while you’re picnicking – you can turn it into an afternoon affair! Washer toss, cornhole, and horseshoes are great choices – or grab a frisbee to toss! Headed out solo? Try some yoga, or bring a book along!

Once you’ve got everything packed up, it’s time to find that perfect spot to sit and enjoy. Set up in the backyard near the garden, on the deck, on the balcony – wherever you can! Set everything out, and start enjoying.
