The Chook Pie - Chicken, Cranberries, and Brie
Have you ever wondered why your friends keep some of the amazing foods that they discovered a secret from you? You have to wonder if they are selfishly trying to keep it all for themselves. Well, this is how we feel about the Chook, our new favourite (no longer secret) pie by South Island pies out of Edmonton. It is not your typical pie - it has free-range, locally sourced chicken bathed in cranberry sauce, creamy Camembert cheese, and the best pie crust we have ever tried (seriously, this pie is worth it just for the crust!). It may sound like an odd combination but you just have to try it to become a believer. This 5” pie is so incredible that it makes us wonder if we should tell our friends or keep it all to ourselves.
COOKING TIP: This pie is pretty easy to make because South Island Pies have done all the hard work for you. The only things left to do is remove the packaging, heat from frozen in an oven preheated to 375°F for 40 minutes (or until the internal temperature is 165°F). Remember that the internal temp is 165°F - waaaaaay too hot to eat. Let it sit for a few minutes before digging in. This 5" pie serves one person.
