Lasagna Bolognese
When you need to get dinner on the table in less than an hour and have hungry mouths to feed, but don’t want to mess up the kitchen, then this Traditional Bolognese Lasagna is for you. The folks at Pretto’s Pasta, located in Hamilton, Ontario, make the best lasagna…period. We put their claims to the test, by sampling a bunch of different lasagna artisans and hands down….Prettos IS the best.
There are a few things that set this lasagna apart in its field. First, the meaty Bolognese sauce starts with Ontario-raised beef and pork from our friends at West Grey Premium Meats. Second, is the impressive stack of seven delicate layers of freshly made egg noodles. Prettos has invented a top secret way to roll their fresh noodles extra thin. Those are amazing but for many the best part is the cheese. Prettos sources local Ontario mozzarella and smothers the top of their lasagnas with it.
COOKING TIP: No need to thaw this lasagna before cooking, but if you want to speed up the cook time, try thawing it overnight in the fridge. First remove the cellophane wrap, but don’t pitch it in the garbage until you’ve had a chance to review the cooking instructions, nutrition info, and ingredients on the bottom label. We like to remove the lid of the lasagna at the end of cooking to brown the cheese before serving. One lasagna serves about 2-3 people, so if you’ve got more mouths to feed, make sure to cook two. We love to cook up two different types of Pretto's lasagna for our families, to give those picky eaters a couple of options to choose from.
