truLOCAL's Favourite Ground Beef Recipes.

We love ground beef but even we find ourselves in a bit of a ground beef rut once in a while. Consider this your inspiration.

Ground beef might just be the most versatile item that truLOCAL carries. It works well in pretty much any recipe, no matter the cooking style, cooking method, or nationality of the dish. Ground Beef can carry the dish no matter how big the role that it will play. It can take the starring role in tacos or burgers, it can hold its own in an ensemble cast in lasagna or chili, and can even steal the show in supporting roles as a topping on nachos or baked potatoes. Ground beef is easy to cook, tastes great, doesn’t take up much freezer space, and adds protein and minerals to whatever dish it is in. Is there anything ground beef can’t do? Okay, maybe a vegetarian dish...

We have compiled some of our favourite recipes featuring ground beef from a variety of sources. We cover some main-stay recipes such as chili but we also take some unexpected culinary twists. We hope that you enjoy these recipes as much as we do.

Chili Con Carne.

Chili is a family favourite. It doesn’t require much effort and can be made in an infinite amount of ways to suit any preference. This beef chili recipe covers all the traditional basics and is a true crowd-pleaser (jalapenos optional). For sauces and chilis, we highly recommend grass fed beef because it stays a little firmer and does not get "lost" in a sauce or chili that has other textures in it. If you are looking for a keto-friendly chili, try our Low Carb Keto Chili.

Skillet Cottage Pie.

This hearty and warming meal is perfect for a cold night when you just can’t shake the cold from your bones. It’s so easy - it’s basically cooking a regular dinner of meat, veggies, and potatoes but making it all in one skillet (smart, fewer dishes to wash afterwards). Even better, any leftovers can be easily heated and enjoyed tomorrow for lunch. Do you know the difference between cottage pie and shepherd’s pie? It’s the type of meat. While shepherd’s pie is made traditionally with ground lamb, cottage pie is made with ground beef.

Crispy Beef Bowls.

Want a meal that is easy and quick to make but still light and packed with flavour? You can have it all with this Asian-inspired dish that features Ground beef and veggies. It is a true all-year type dish because it can be served either hot or cold depending on the season.

Lettuce Wrap Sloppy Joes.

Right when you thought you had sloppy joes all figured out, we threw you a curve ball and removed the bun! That’s right, we removed the bun and upped the veggies to make this recipe gluten-free but if you like the burger bun with your sloppy joe, you can bring it back. This recipe tastes great on romaine lettuce or a bun. Actually, it would also taste great on pasta, rice, veggies, … we could go on and on. This is another dish that is improved by adding grass fed beef so that the texture is a little fuller. If you have any questions about grain fed vs grass fed beef, check out our blog that talks about the pros and cons of each.

Mexican Stuffed Peppers.

Stuffed peppers are a great way to shake up your usual meal routine with a tasty, healthy, and low-carb meal. Filled with delicious lean ground beef and loaded with vegetables, this a well balanced, crowd-pleaser. It’s even fun to eat!

Cheesy Bacon Burger Casserole.

Despite them going out of fashion back in the 70s, we still love a good casserole. They are easy to make, can inexpensively feed an army, and the leftovers are great. This creamy, burger-inspired casserole is a twist on the typical burger but if burgers are not quite your thing, try our cheesy Taco Casserole recipe instead.
