Easy Blackened Chicken

Need a break from grilled chicken? This just in, blackened chicken for the win! Use it to make a tasty sandwich, top a salad or pair it with the side of your choice.

  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/4 tsp Kosher salt
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/4 tsp dried thyme
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 4 tsp olive oil
  • 2 boneless skinless chicken breasts, halved and beaten to even thickness


  1. In a small to medium-sized bowl, whisk together the spices and olive oil until evenly combined. Add the chicken and toss until well coated. Heat a large non-stick skillet on medium-high heat for up to five minutes until extremely hot. DO NOT add any oil to the pan at this time.
  2. Once the pan is very hot, add the chicken. Do not move the chicken in the pan and let cook for 3 to 5 minutes, until well seared. Flip and repeat on the other side. Once the chicken is cooked through and the thickest part of the chicken reads 165F with a meat thermometer, turn the heat off and remove it from the pan. Serve with lime wedges and your favourite sides - enjoy!
